Adios, friend

It's been almost a week already since I got the e-mail from C. I just couldn't believe it. He just retired in August, and now he's gone.

John Duncan was a salesman for KASCO/Atlantic Service when I worked there in the 1990s. John called me just about every day while he was out on the route taking care of customers in western Ontario, Manitoba and Saskatchewan. We always had a good chuckle and John had lots of calls--we used to call them his fan club--of butchers and store owners from little towns like Ear Falls, Ontario, to managers of packing houses in Manitoba and Saskatchewan.

I will miss him very much. My deepest condolences to his wife Donna and his family. His KASCO friends I know miss him, too.

Away many moons...

Yes, I've been busy trying to get ready for the holidays. Lots of stuff going on and I'm trying to bake and try new things as much as I can.

I have a love-hate relationship with cookies. I love them, but hate to make drop ones, because of all the cleanup. So I compromised recently and made a double batch of chocolate chip with Bubba. We did drop cookies on one batch and we did pan cookies on another. None of the batches lasted too long.

While perusing the internet I did find a very interesting recipe for a cranberry apple crisp. Check it out here at Readers Digest. It's great topped with vanilla ice cream or with just whipped cream.

I'll be working on digging up some more interesting recipes in the near future. Stay tuned.
