A test to try out...

Now that I'm done with my tests (for the moment) here's a test you might want to try out in anticipation on July 4th -- How American are you.

At least more than half of me is in response to some of these oddball questions. Enjoy! Have a nice, long, safe weekend.

You Are 55% American

Most times you are proud to be an American.
Though sometimes the good ole US of A makes you cringe
Still, you know there's no place better suited to be your home.
You love your freedom and no one's going to take it away from you!

Gotta run! Time to put up the signs and meet and greet at the reunion. More on that later.

Hooray it's Friday!

Now all I have to do is survive this weekend. So many things to do and so little time.

Sunday, June 25 is the Notre Dame High School All Class Reunion and Faculty/Staff Appreciation. Come on by the Ordnance Shelter at Sylvan Springs Park in South County from 2-6PM and enjoy some light refreshment and seeing some of your friends and teachers from high school, and meet some new ones. We have lots of fun things planned, so don't miss it. If I didn't have to spend all this time going to school, I'd cybercast it. ;->

No board cards will be issued for flip flops or shorts. Need more information? Check out www.ndalum.net for maps and other sundry details.

Have a great weekend, all! Enjoy!

Happy Thursday!

My brain is fried and I still have to go to school tomorrow.

Here are some articles I've run into today, while I'm quietly winding down the day:

Article of note - children of Africa

I don't normally agree with celebrities and their "cause of the moment" attitude, but I think the focus some celebrities are bringing to Africa can resolve problems.

We can only hope, or we may see more problems like the ones in this cnn.com article.

Summer in St. Louis at SLU

I realized today, as I looked from the parking garage, that summer is just about here in St. Louis. The haze obscured my beautiful view down Chouteau towards downtown. From my favorite spot on Level B (just up the ramp so I get exercise walking to get my books out at lunchtime) I can see the Sheraton City Centre and the rest of the downtown skyline.I look for the Cosand Center (my old haunt at St. Louis Community College) but I think some of it is obscured by the new stadium.

One of my classmates and I ate outside on a park bench and then strolled the neighborhood. It has really changed. There are new homes going up and a lot of things going on near SLU. We treaded areas I would have never driven through when I was at SLU and saw some of the neighbors, mostly elderly people, sitting out on their shaded front porches. I regaled him with the stories of the "bad old days at SLU" (tongue firmly in cheek) when I was here the first time in the late 80s and early 90s. We saw the old Allied Health Building, which is now a social service agency, with a coffee shop in one of the retail areas, the Ronald McDonald House, which was somewhere else my first time here and all the additions at Cardinal Glennon Hospital.

Next, we traipsed past the old nursing school building facing Grand and then we strolled down Caroline Mall, which was once a through street. The doors where I entered the Med School to see the orthodontist in grade school are still there, but they only exit. The Orthodontics folks have their own brand-spanking-new Advanced Dental Center down the street.

It got hot, so I was happy to retreat to the cool inside of school.

One down...many more to go

I passed one of my first tests today. We'll see how it goes next week.

HIPAA not HIPPO

Lots of things are going on this week. We'll have the first test and we had our HIPAA certification class. You have to have this to go work in a hospital.

HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) of 1996) has several parts, most important to students like me are the Privacy Regulations.

Student update

School started this week. As usual, there's a lot of reading. So far, I'm mucking my way through it and staying up late nightly to get it done.

We use WebCT which I don't really like as much as Blackboard. I see some cool features, but others (like the menu on the left side)doesn't always work.

I found a good seat in lecture hall, so I can update my notes from the handouts with my own typewritten ones. The instructors are pretty good. Wednesdays, however, are long, since we spend the entire day in one lecture hall. We have frequent breaks, so this makes things tolerable.

Back to work!
